I created this for Rhobbin Rosenthal's 60th birthday. 

Happy Birthday!

I've done similar birds on Illustrater in the past, like this one from last year. It's actually easy and fun, once you got the principle shape down. 

I had a parrot pair, but I don't know where that image went. 

Hmmm....

I may have to try my other computer. If I do, I will post it next week.

Kansas Portraits

These are some of the pictures I help take while in Kansas. The studio, called Classy Kids, specializes in 'boutique' family portraits and private school photos. The photographer, Rhobbin Rosenthal, taught me how to center the subject and click at just the right moment. These are some of the photos we co

Most of the schools we took pictures at were infant-kindertgarden. For about 2-3 days each we shot the kids photos. There are three main poses for each child;

These poses often sold well with the parents ordering pictures of their children. Since Classy Kids  is a small private business, the studio can give more attention and time to individual adjustments.

A perk I got to enjoy were glamor shots Rhobbin took of me. It was during the fall, so the back drop of many colored leaves made the shoot extra special. I also edited and photoshop the colors and slight imperfections. Nothing can teach you more about  photoshop editing than when it is your own face you are editing.

The ones above were done in Kansas in her studio backyard. I still haven't gotten over the vivid colors of the fall. Or how nice looking I am. 

This one was taken in California, when Rhobbin visited last summer. Though I was almost killed several times by passing cars, the resulting photo is still cool.

I learned so much from Rhobbin. When we were taking pictures, I was the shooter (one pointing and clicking the camera}, and Rhobbin was the tickler; the one to pose the kids, make them comfortable to laugh and get a winning smile from. The hardest job of all. We had shy kids, nervous kids, crying kids, stone-faced kids, and kids that didn't want their picture taken-period! But through it all Rhobbin kept a kind, patient smile on her face as she made them feel at ease and smile.

Self Imposed Hiatus Over!

Eeeep! It's 2014 already!?!?!

It has been over a year since I added anything!!!  How embarrassing!

I have been so focused on my storyboard portfolio blog I guess this one has slipped my mind. A lot ... and yet not enough has happened since July 2012. I got a part time job to pay the bills while I looked for a job that's more involved in my field, but nothing panned out. I even took classes in Burbank at the Art Guild and Concept art Academy in Pasadena to gain more skills and meet more of the people out there. No luck so far.

I did get to go to Spain for 10 days. One word; breathtaking.

Then at the end of last summer I was offered a photography internship in, of all places, Kansas!
It was a paid internship with free housing and a chance to live somewhere else in the US for several months. How could I say no.

So from the end of August to the Beginning of November I learned about lighting, posing, camera malfunctions (which weren't all my fault), and how to make pre-school kids smile. The photographers main job was to photograph toddler thru pre-school kids for their fall photos.  She also does family sitting, senior pictures, and weddings. Needless to say, I learned a lot about the portrait business first hand.

As for Kansas, it's hot and sticky in the summer, crisp and colorful in the fall (may show pictures later on of the foliage) , and freezing in the winter. Best BBQ I've ever tasted, only problem was there was too much of it! The people where friendly, open, and all around nice. I meet family twice removed from my fathers side there that I just barely knew, but they welcomed me with open arms once they found out I was a cousin. All in all, I would like to go back and visit.

Now that the internship and holidays are all over, I will take up job hunting with more zeal and determination. I may find another part-time job to make ends meet, but for now I'm concentrating on sending applications and selling stuff online. Once I establish myself on etsy, I'll link it to this site so you can see my work.

I've made a lot of cool illustrations and craft pieces over the last year. These following drawings I created while in Kansas. There was all this scrap photo paper lying around, and I couldn't let it go to waste. I have found sharpies work well on this kind of paper, and the results speak for themselves.
